Workout For Getting Back In Shape

I have broken down getting back into shape into 5 stages you can be in and progress through. You can jump to whichever stage you feel you are in and start where you currently feel capable.

The 5 stages are: walking, trying physically active hobbies, advancing with your favorite hobby, supplemental strength training, and thriving on the path to better shape.

Before we embark, it's important to note that we should approach getting back in shape as finding out what is the best shape your future self can be in. Our bodies are completely different than the past we have chased and will never be the same.

Trust me, that's a good thing! Who says we can't be stronger, or look and feel better than we have in the past? Let's look forward to what's possible for your future instead of to what was in the past.

5 Stages To Get In Shape

  1. Walking: Step one is being able to walk and do day-to-day activities. Then you can walk to the end of your block, then walk around your block, then do a couple of laps now. A good rule of thumb is being able to walk a mile comfortably before progressing to stage 2.

  2. Trying Physically Active Hobbies: Now that you can walk a mile you can start thinking of what fun physical activity you would most enjoy. To help you out I have a list of 100 physically active hobbies for you to choose from. Pick 1-2 that you resonate with and try them out!

  3. Advancing Favorite Hobby: Now that you know your favorite physically active hobby you can start adding it more into your week! Do it as much as you can and as much as you want so that you accomplish your fitness goals.

  4. Supplemental Strength Training: Now you have another reason to do some form of strength training; to supplement and get better at your physically active hobby! Start with 1 day a week, and maybe even bump it up to 2 or more.

  5. Thriving To Better Shape: Reassess where you have come from, what your fitness goals are, and how you can get there. Maybe you want to increase your days doing your active hobby, or the days you do supplemental strength training. Maybe you want to add another hobby. Think about what you want for your future and what the best way to get there is.
